The vast majority of the new developments are underpinned by one very significant introduction into SLP7’s code: artificial intelligence. However, with this release, Steinberg are attempting to transform spectral editing into a tool everyone could utilise. The headline new features all point to v7 being something of a major breakthrough in terms of ease‑of‑use.Īs described in previous SOS reviews of SLP, for those that need to dig in, all those powerful manual editing options remain in SLP7 and have been further improved, in many cases. SOS reviewed SpectraLayers Pro 6 in the December 2019 issue but Steinberg are now back with SpectraLayers Pro 7 (SLP7). SpectaLayers has been a big part of this, from its inception under Sony in 2012, a transition to MAGIX and, eventually, into the well‑respected hands of Steinberg, who acquired the product in 2019. Over recent years, spectral editing has proven itself as a powerful, albeit somewhat specialised, tool for tasks such as audio restoration, creative sound design, vocal/instrument isolation and forensic audio analysis. It’s possible Steinberg may make a bundle like Absolute or something with the sound tools and place it on sale at some point, so you would be paying for a bundle of software you actually do want.Steinberg’s clever use of AI has made spectral editing and unmixing more accessible than ever. Either way, you are still playing > $100 USD for SoundForge, a piece of software you don’t really want. They only state the inclusion of SL7 upgrade with a purchase of latest version of SoundForge Pro at full price. I believe the uncertainty with Magix pricing strategy is there is no assurance you will get SL7 with a purchase of an older version of Sound forge. I was interested in SL7 but am thinking it may not be the right tool for me. Right this minute I am thinking to wait for a better deal. I can get Samplitude Pro X5 update is $199 with SL7 abut no SoundForge 13.Īnd the suite is $250 which includes SL 7 and Sound Forge 13. I think you are really like me waiting for SL7. Good deal actually if you want Sound Forge 13 and the other two plugins. So I suspect you are hoping for the $75-$85 update to SL7?
